Santoshee Gulabkali Mishra is an accomplished Independent Journalist and Documentary Filmmaker with a distinguished career spanning over two decades. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in English literature and Law from the University of Mumbai, she further honed her skills by completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Born in Mumbai, Santoshee has made significant contributions to the field, working with renowned media houses such as Free Press Journal, Hindustan Times, Mid-Day Multimedia Pvt Ltd, and The Indian Express group in India. Throughout her career, she has specialized in crime and legal beats, covering stories that have left an indelible mark.
Some of her notable achievements include conducting an exclusive interview with Haseena Parkar, the sister of Underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim, exposing Hasan Ali’s tax evasion, and reporting on high-profile cases like the BBC (Bombay Blast Case) and the Mumbai Terror attacks.
Her dedication and impactful reporting have been recognized with awards from prominent figures such as Shri K Sanakarnarayanan, the former Maharashtra Governor, and accolades from the Mumbai Marathi Journalist Association, PRCI, and Newsmakers Achiever’s Award.
During the pandemic, Santoshee showcased her commitment to human interest stories by shedding light on the heart-wrenching experiences of Commercial Sex Workers in Mumbai and Pune as an Independent Journalist. These stories, published in TheNews21 and Citizen Matters news portal, garnered widespread attention and empathy.
Driven by the belief that true journalism extends beyond reporting news, Santoshee embarked on her journey as a Documentary Filmmaker. Her documentary, “Mumbai 400008 – A story of betrayal, pain, and desperation,” provides a poignant insight into the struggles faced by commercial sex workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. The film received nominations in the Best Documentary category at the Stuttgart Film Festival in Germany, the Culture Film Festival, and the Standalone Film Festival in Los Angeles, USA.
Her second documentary, “Laal Pari – A Road Fairy,” delves into the economic significance of Maharashtra’s seventy-five-year-old bus service. This film has been recognized as the Best Film in the Travel category at the Culture Film Festival and received nominations at the International Travel Film Festival Cyprus in the Best Documentary category.
Santoshee’s storytelling prowess continues to captivate audiences, shedding light on important issues with depth and empathy.
